The late Fred Deutsch was born July 18, 1892 in Butte,
Montana and passed away in 1984.
He started the garden in 1930.
In 1935 he transplanted 48 Saguaro cacti from Arizona and only
1 lived.
For the garden he took stone from Friant Dam and the old
courthouse and light stand. To light the garden, he
rigged up headlights from Model T's. Remnants of his
car selling days.
