The method used to collect the gemstone powders: As We cut and polish gems, the fine residue is washed away by drops of clean water dripping onto the diamond impregnated lap disc and then dripping over the side into a pan and then flows down a small diameter tube into a clean five-gallon bucket with a lid covering. Eventually over a period of months, the residue settles to the bottom of the bucket. When the bucket gets nearly full of water, We drain off the water and let the residue at the bottom dry out naturally. After the powder is dry, We remove it from the bucket and place into bags.
Although the powder is produced from cutting and polishing gemstone material, the color of most powders are actually a white to tan or grey powdery color looking like baby powder or talc.
Some powders will vary in color from a near white color to a tinge of light grey color and sometimes a tinge of a pinkish or tan-like color.
The powders We have the most of at this time are from opals. There may be other gem material mixed in and some of it can be from rare and valuable gemstones.
Quartz is Silicon dioxide. Opal is a hydrous form of Silicon dioxide which means it contains water. They are very similar when in powder form.
The price is lower when buying in larger quantities but are subject to availability.
If you are interested in other gem-powders or larger quantities, please let us know in advance.
