Chalk Mines  Scotia, Nebraska Explore the singular beauty of the North Loup River Valley as you climb to the top of Happy Jack Peak, with its summit more than 2000 feet above sea-level.  Then go "underground" to explore the extraordinary maze of caverns carved by early miners, who dug for the chalk rock which lies beneath.  Enjoy nearby, picnic facilities and hiking trails as you experinece this prairie paradise and geological wonder.
Salt Mines Le Bouillet, Switzerland Explore a fascinating underground realm created entirely by man’s labour. It is a vast maze of subterranean passages, shafts, stairways and chambers, often huge, covering a total distance of about 30 miles, and extending beneath the mountainside as far away as Villars, Chesières and Arveyes. Only about 3 miles of this immense underground labyrinth can be visited. But the road followed shows the most spectacular results of the differents mining techniques used over the centuries, right back to the first tunnel dug in 1684.
